August 16, 2019 — It was an honor to share advice and encouragement alongside my fellow former governors from Nebraska, Vermont, New Mexico, New Jersey, and North Carolina at a gathering of the Hunt-Kean Leadership Fellows program in Austin, Texas.

At the convening, the cohort of nineteen high-ranking state leaders from across the country explored key education issues including teacher preparation, strong school leadership, and higher education access, affordability, and completion.

As advisory board members, Gov. Jim Hunt, Gov. Tom Kean, Gov. Jim Douglas, Gov. Dave Heineman, Gov. Susana Martinez, and I worked directly with the fellows to guide their thinking and help build their capacity to drive education reform that benefits students in their states.
